Anytime we hear the Atlantic ocean calling us, we head to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. I can’t count the number of times we have visited through the years. We enjoy going in the off-season, when the fisherman are there just as much as being in the hubbub of the summer crowds on the 4th of July.

Beach Activities

Water sports including parasailing, always a beach favorite thing to do, kayaking, ride the Banana boat, you can rent a jet ski, a boat with wakeboard and paddleboards if you love a little extreme water sporting. Go on a dolphin cruise, take a sunset cruise or go scuba diving.

Visit any of the five beaches at Tybee Island for a relaxing and exciting vacation or weekend get-away. North beach, South beach, Mid beach, Back River and Little Tybee, you could visit them all. Tybee is just over 5 miles long. You can bike the entire island in the morning and spend the afternoon on the beach then enjoy a night out.

Watersports and ocean adventures await on Tybee and include; sailing, fish from the pier or go deep sea fishing, kayaking, surfing, jet ski, dolphin tours and paddle boarding. One unique adventure you can do on the beach is go on a fossil hunting excursion.

  • Because Tybee history dates back over 400 years, there are historical sights to tour like the Lighthouse and Museum.
  • The Fort Screven District with history dating back to 1897 where you could spend a day.
  • Don’t miss Officer’s Row or the Post Theatre.
  • Be sure to visit Fort Pulaski considered to be one of the “most spectacular harbor defense structures” in the United States during the Civil War era.
  • Also visit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center where you will learn about tides, dunes and ocean wildlife.

Shopping and Entertainment

Beach shopping at it’s finest can be found in the local boutiques, art galleries and souvenir shops.

Sometimes, entertainment and dining out are one thing. That is the case on the Back River where you can make reservations at A.J.’s and dine on the pier at sunset, sounds wonderful doesn’t it. The Crab Shack is a must do dining experience if you enjoy waterfront dining, plus the food is fabulous. Dine on the deck and watch the shrimp boats return in the evening at Coco’s Sunset Grille. There is no shortage of restaurants for lunch, dinner or dessert on Tybee Island. You can cap off a perfect day at the beach with waterfront dining on island time and listening to live music.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Vacation where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic ocean at Virginia Beach. You will find a reason to visit this historic area year round, not just in the summer. A bustling and thriving location with tons of things to see and do.

A nice quiet beach where you can relax away from all the usual hustle and bustle of overcrowded places. Only about 28 miles from downtown Charleston where you will find the entertainment, activities, adventure, shopping and restaurants.

Catch a sunrise at the North Beach. Build sand castles while relaxing on the sandy shores. Go for a romantic walk at sunset.

Watch dolphins doing something called strand feeding. Your best chance of catching sight of this rare feeding technique is low tide on the north end. The dolphins may seem to you like they are struggling but they are actually feeding on the edge of the water as it crashes onto the sandy shores.
