Jimmie’s Hot Dogs in Albany, Ga., is locally famous and for good reason. Their hot dogs are not only delicious but also affordable.
We enjoy a good hot dog. In fact, when we travel, we always look for the local hot dog joint. Most places have at least one. You know, the place where construction workers go for lunch or the soccer moms pick up a quick meal on a busy day.
Our preference is the red wiener, not the fat ones, but the smaller ones. We prefer grilled or fried hot dogs. Boiling the wiener removes the flavor. The toppings here in the deep south can be a little varied, but the two main choices required by hot dog law are chili and cole slaw.
We know when the slaw is store-bought. That doesn’t mean we won’t eat it, but you do lose a star. Hot dog chili is a special source of pride for the owner. Most have perfected their own recipe that won the locals over.

When we visited Jimmie’s Hot Dogs in Albany, GA., I got one of each. I will go ahead and tell you right now, I give Jimmie’s two thumbs up. I’d go back there. In fact, we plan to go back.
Their chili is a good, savory hot dog chili with no beans. It isn’t ‘wet’, so it doesn’t make your bun soggy. Just say no to soggy buns, right?
The slaw was an almost creamy, sweet slaw. It is good for us slaw dog lovers.
Jimmie’s sign proclaims they are the “King of the Hot Dog”. They should know a thing or two about cooking a good ‘dog’. Their business has been part of Albany, GA. culture since around 1947. Ownership has changed hands a few times, but the taste and value of their hot dogs remain the same.

Jimmie’s does not serve fries. They are a hot dog joint only. Your side options are a bag of chips and a canned soda or tea.
Their grilled buns add to the yummy factor for their hot dog in my book.
Sometimes, the bun can overwhelm the wiener. Their buns create a good ratio, so you get the flavor of the wiener and your toppings.

Jimmie’s is located on the outskirts of downtown in an older brick building. There is no dining room, only a nice little lobby where the line wraps around the room. Before we were parked on the street out front, we noticed a steady flow of folks going in and coming out. The line moves quickly.
Because there is no dining room, and we wanted to sit down and enjoy our meal, we went to a McDonald’s nearby. We bought French fries and drinks at McDonald’s and ate our hot dogs right there. We are still chuckling about eating hot dogs at McDonald’s, but the meal was really good.

We noticed this sign that says Jimmie’s also has a location in Leesburg, GA., which is about 12 miles from Albany on Hwy. 19. They do offer dine-in at the Leesburg location.

Our visit to Albany, GA., was a Day Trip we took to visit Radium Springs and eat Jimmie’s Hot Dogs. We intended to also visit the Chehaw Zoo that day, but were so smitten by Radium Springs, we lingered there longer. It is a good excuse to go back. We can visit the Zoo and eat Jimmie’s Hot Dogs again.
