Our quest to know the best places to eat in Warner Robins began in 2017 when we moved to the area. Knowing where the locals eat is always the best info.
Now that we have been locals for a few years, we can share with you the best places to eat in Warner Robins and Houston County.
Warner Robins is called an International City because of the Air Force Base here and a constant flow of people from all cultures. It’s in the heart of Georgia. There are plenty of chain restaurants but it’s the local places where you can find great service and great food. Many local restaurants source local produce and support their community. They have an investment in Warner Robins locals.
When you start talking about places to eat in Warner Robins, you really mean, Houston County because it encompasses several very small, tiny little cities all so close together that some folks think it is all part of Warner Robins. Our places where the locals eat in Houston county are from; Kathleen, Bonaire, Byron, and Perry plus Warner Robins and even one in Fort Valley.
How we selected the best local places to eat in Warner Robins, Ga.
It is all about the Reviews online for the most part. Reviews from Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google, and Facebook were all taken into consideration. Sadly, it is super duper hard for any business to get a 5-star review these days simply because folks have unrealistic expectations from society in general. We live in a cancel culture with a mindset of unforgiveness to our fellow humans.
One of my pet peeves when reading restaurant reviews is to see someone leave a negative review because the place was closed when they got there. Really? If you didn’t eat there or get take-out from there, don’t leave a review.
Restaurant reviews should be predominantly based on the quality of the food and service. Also worth noting are cleanliness, friendliness, the number of servings, and atmosphere. If you have ever been to a place like Wild Wings, then you know they cater to a sports-oriented crowd with a multitude of televisions all on different sports at one time. It is really loud there, it’s their atmosphere. Do not leave them a negative review for being loud, that is their thing.
Mexican and Cuban places to eat in Houston County, Ga.
Cuban Island Café is located in Bonaire. Since 2007, this local restaurant has been serving authentic Cuban cuisine. Reservations are available. Open every day except Sunday for lunch and dinner. Friendly staff who help each other, if your waitress gets busy somewhere else, not to worry, someone else will check on you.
Leave room for coffee and dessert! You won’t be sorry. Also, see their Food Truck schedule on their Facebook page.
“The food is great, the service is excellent, and the prices are good.” says one review on Facebook.
My Grandma’s Empanadas are located in Warner Robins very near the Air Force Base.
Reviews are excellent. Good food, good service, and they also source locally grown which is a plus too.
Open Mon.-Sat. 10-2. Be sure to add a lunch date soon for some Empanadas.
Luis Mexican Food & Grill in Warner Robins serves “high-quality authentic Mexican cuisine!” Judging by the reviews, I’d say their food is delicious and the service is good too. They do have a Kid’s menu, a plus for families. Catering, Takeout, and delivery are available.
From one reviewer “One word best describes this place, authentic. Food is great and the owners are kind …bring your appetite, servings are huge and delicious.”
The Taco Shed in Warner Robins is locally owned and features 23 different Tacos. Great reviews for good service, good food, and fair prices. Now with two locations. No kids menu.
There are quite a few Mexican restaurants in the Houston county area. It was hard to narrow it down to only two but I took the best overall reviews from Yelp, Trip Advisor, Facebook, and Google to select these two.
Asian and Mediterranean Restaurants in the Warner Robins area
Greek Village located on Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins is the place to go for your authentic Greek food experience on Monday through Friday.
Dine-in or take out. Delivery is available through GrubHub and Seamless. They actually have a drive-through window too.
The tzatziki sauce is a favorite along with their Gyros and Dessert case and pretty much the entire menu. It’s a great place for lunch and a nice place for dinner out too.
Metropolis Grill located in Warner Robins is a quaint little place with lots of atmosphere. The service is friendly and fast. The food is delicious and plentiful. Serving Greek, Mediterranean, and Indian cuisine and all of it authentic and delicious. The reviews speak for themselves.
Open 7 days. Yes, there is a Kid’s menu. From one reviewer “Their to-go service is just as excellent as their dine-in. First-rate.” Metropolis is a personal favorite place my husband and I enjoy on date night.
KIN.D96 Thai and Sushi is located on Hwy.96 in Warner Robins next to Decadent Desserts which is near Rigby’s Water Park. Enjoy dining where they host an exhibition kitchen which adds an air of excitement to your dining experience.
KIN.D96, a Thai restaurant is open every day except Sunday. They close for a couple of hours between lunch and dinner. Reservations accepted. Yes, they do have a Kid’s menu.
Choi’s Korean Restaurant in Warner Robins on N. Commercial Circle. The restaurant is located inside the Korean Market. While they are to-go only during the Pandemic, they are still a much-loved local favorite for authentic Korean cuisine. Open 7 days.
From one review, “I love the beef Bulgogi and all the veggies compliments. We often stop at the connecting store to pick up freshly made kimchi, theirs is the best.” Another reviewer says “Large portions, absolutely delicious food, and attentive friendly service.”
Lieu’s On The Go is hands down the Chinese Restaurant most popular with the locals in Bonaire. It’s just off Hwy. 96 behind the Dollar General across from Kroger. It’s always the out-of-the-way places that are the best, right?
Open Tuesday through Sunday. Lieu’s originally had a restaurant over in Milledgeville about an hour away. This one is still a fairly new restaurant in our area. They have grown a nice local following already to their ‘Mom and Pop’ Chinese restaurant. Good food and good service are what it takes and they have both.
Voted Best of the Best in 2020 by the locals.
A recent reviewer said “This place is great, the food is fresh and taste wonderful. Great customer service, you taste the love in the food. In case you don’t know, the egg rolls homemade never frozen.”
Great Seafood
Creekside Catfish with a Fort Valley address but they are right off I-75 at Exit 142 on Hwy. 96. Their location is a good example of how close everything is located but yet it sounds like being in a different city makes it far.
Voted Best of the Best in 2020, the restaurant is open the First and Third Thursday through Saturday. They also run a vibrant catering business. Dine-in or Take-out, their food is fabulous. You get some homemade bread and butter pickles while waiting on your meal and they are simply amazing, the best, made by the owner using a closely guarded secret recipe.
Arrive early if dining in, they are packed but the wait is worth it. Friendly service, nice size portions, and delicious food. If you are picking up take-out, there is a walk-up window outside, be sure to call your order in so your wait won’t be as long.
Where there may be lots of great seafood restaurants in the middle Georgia area, Creekside stands out. Folks drive from all over to eat here.
Favorite American Restaurants in the Warner Robins area
Pond on Moody Rd. in Warner Robins. This place has lots of atmosphere and it overlooks the lake with patio seating outside. They serve a variety of menu items you would expect at an American grill-type restaurant including fish, steaks, and burgers. My personal favorite is their Shrimp and Grits. Pond sources local produce, a plus in my book.
The service is always good and the food does not disappoint. We have never been when the manager didn’t visit our table and ask us how everything is.
Reservations recommended. Take out available and Yes, they do have a Kid’s menu. Closed on Monday and they are now serving breakfast/brunch on Sundays.
The Swanson located in the quaint downtown of Perry, a very short drive from Warner Robins, has long been a local favorite. It’s a southern home cooking place serving meat and two with a true taste of the South. They are famous for their fried chicken and those yummy little biscuits they bring before your meal. If you like fried green tomatoes, this is your place.
Travelers Choice Award from Trip Advisor for 2020. Named by Garden and Gun magazine as “one of the best chicken joints in the south.” Open 7 days but only for lunch on Sunday which includes a special one-price menu with adult and child pricing.
Dine on the front porch of this historic home transformed into a restaurant. The inside dining atmosphere is very quaint and welcoming. White tablecloths and a flower vase on each table. The service and the food have never disappointed us on the many occasions we have been there. You may possibly encounter a group of teenagers dressed in formal attire or couples dressed casually, everyone loves this place.
The Perfect Pear, which is right down the street, a short walk from The Swanson in Perry is a local favorite for lunch and especially Sunday brunch. They are open for lunch only on Sun., Mon., Tues. and Wed. However, check their Facebook page before going, they sometimes open for special events and sometimes close due to special events.
The owner, Megan is a popular local caterer and in fact catered our daughter’s wedding a few years ago. Some of their most popular items are the homemade pimento cheese, the Downtown Dip sandwich, and of course the doughnut bread pudding. It’s a nice place to enjoy lunch with friends.
Nu-Way Weiners Hot Dog Joint on Russel Parkway in Warner Robins for the win if you want a good Hot Dog with chili. Nu-Way is a local franchise located only in Macon and Warner Robins. The Russel location consistently has the best reviews.
The hot dogs are great but don’t miss out on the Mega Burger, the best hamburger around, it’s like a smash-burger. The Meg, as we call it comes with French fries. Nu-Way is also famous for their flaky ice, it’s crushed y’all, so good.
Nu-Way is a great place to have lunch but the dining room still is not open from the Pandemic shut down, hopefully soon. Until then, we use their Drive-thru. They are closed on Sunday. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
There is a 3 for 2 special on Mon.-Wed. which is a good deal. They cater and don’t you know how fun it is to have Nu-Way cater an event. I have seen folks have Nu-Way cater a family visitation at a funeral home even.
McCall’s Sandwiches on ‘the circle’ in Warner Robins. IF there was downtown in Warner Robins, the circle is where it would be anchored by McCall’s which has been in business since 1987.
Open for lunch only, Mon.-Fri. 10 am- 2:30, they herd a whole lot of folks though which means the service is fast. It’s also friendly and the food is always good. Homemade from scratch soups, salads including a delicious chicken salad, sandwiches, and desserts. See the Special’s Board while you are in line, everything may not be on the menu. Dine-in, Take out, curbside pick-up, and delivery through their App.
McCall’s caters and in fact here is what one local reviewer says “McCall’s is simply the best place to order catering for a large group. They made my job easy to provide meals for 40 individuals. The food was delicious and the entire order was 100% correct. Everyone was so pleased! I highly recommend them for lunch and catering.”
My Father’s Place Pizza is located on Moody Rd. between Hwy. 96 and Russel Parkway.
You will find much more than just pizza at My Father’s Place. They have a nice salad buffet, dinner entree’s like Chicken parm, spaghetti and lasagna plus cold Sub sandwiches and desserts.
Read this review “Great service, friendly staff, fantastic food and great prices!”
